The Peugeot 208 gets celebrated in 21st century style

After giving away a few scant details about a party for the launch of the new Peugeot 208 in Rio de Janeiro this month, there is now a more detailed video on offer on Peugeot's YouTube channel. It is all part of the curiously named "Let Your Body Drive" campaign and the French automaker is hoping that the latest video will go viral. If you want to take a peek and see if it is indeed viral-worthy, take a look below.

Unlike the teaser video, we actually get a better look at the car this time, along with a spectacular light show, plenty of gawping admirers filming it all on camera phones – and the fine work of a male dancer who we hope got very well paid for appearing in public in a shiny white unitard.

The spectacle was filmed at Cinelandia Square on December 8 with thousands of curious onlookers stopping whatever they were doing to take a look – and plenty of them got involved with the carnival atmosphere and started to shake their groove thing in time to the music. As well as this video spectacular, the new 208 will be rolled out globally with staggered launches between March 2012 and March 2013.

Manufacturing for the European and British market will take place at France's Poissy and Mulhouse and at the Trnava plant in Slovakia. And if you're wondering why they decided to film the video in Rio – aside from the fact that it is a town that really knows how to party, this latest 208 will be produced for the Latin-American market at the Porto Real plant in the State of Rio de Janeiro from 2013.
