Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid

The new Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid will be showing its eco-credentials at Goodwood this week

This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is also set to become the Goodwood Festival of Green with Volvo taking the opportunity to use the event to launch to new cars in the UK.

The big news is the new V60 plug-in diesel hybrid with all-wheel drive. Volvo is making the rather bold claim that this will be an electric car, a hybrid car and a muscle car "all rolled into one" with three modes – Pure for zero-emissions electric driving for up to 32 miles, Hybrid for emissions at 49g/km and up to 621 miles on the combined powers of diesel and electric minus the range anxiety of electric cars, and Power for upping the fun factor with 215+70bhp shared between the powertrains and a 0-62mph dash of 6.2 seconds.

The all-new V40 will also be on show – a plush hatchback with a keen starting price of £19,745 OTR. The D2 version has a 115bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine, CO2 emissions of just 94g/km, combined fuel consumption of 78.5mpg, six-speed manual gearbox and start/stop function.

A few lucky Volvo customers will also be able to test-drive these two cars up Goodwood's hill. More prices and specs on the hybrid to come at a later date.
