Hitting the motorcycle scene in 2012 is an abundance of new models, plus a number of updated classics that put the latest power and technology into your all-time favourite rides. Read on to discover some of the likely hits of 2012.
A host of top manufacturers are putting out new models next year, including Harley Davidson, Triumph, KTM and Honda, to name but a few. Covering a broad range of styles, these upcoming motorcycles are likely to spark interest from all kinds of rider, whether you love the raw power and iconic look of a Harley Davidson or light and nimble sports bikes.
Among the manufacturers launching new designs in 2012 is Triumph Motorcycles. Following record motorbike sales last year, the brand is set to release three models, including the latest addition to its adventure range, the Tiger Explorer.
Boasting a three-cylinder engine in excess of 1200cc, the Tiger Explorer will feature a strong steel chassis, cast alloy wheels and a host of great features, including cruise control and switchable ABS.
The brand will also be releasing the Triumph Steve McQueen Edition – a limited edition model of which just 1,100 are planned to be sold worldwide. Taking inspiration from the Triumph Trophy TR6 ridden by McQueen in The Great Escape, the bike will be broadly based on the Bonneville T100 and will feature blacked out handlebars, wheel rims and hubs for a stylish look.
Meanwhile, the last of Triumph's new releases for 2012 will be the Speed Triple R – a fresh take on one of the manufacturer's classics. Featuring lightweight aluminium wheels, it provides accurate handling, while its new combination of brakes and wheels provide a five per cent improvement on the existing model's stopping performance.
Honda has also promised some impressive new releases, including the 2012 Fireblade – a 20th anniversary edition of its existing Fireblade dSpeeesign. Building on the legacy of the previous model, this new entry into the motorcycle marketplace promises a host of finely-tuned improvements.
Fans can expect to see the bike kitted out with the latest technology, such as a full LCD display, in addition to a revised fuel injection and a new rear shock for better traction and improved damping.
Add to this its increased stability during braking and improved tyre grip, and you've got a bike that provides a great pairing of control and power.
Harley Davidson fans, meanwhile, can expect a treat of their own in 2012. With the release of the Night Rod Special, this iconic manufacturer is giving its followers an incredibly powerful and irresistibly stylish machine.
The Night Rod Special is almost completely blacked out, giving an image of raw power – a look that its engine certainly matches. In fact, its 1250cc engine produces 125 horsepower, rendering it one of Harley Davidson's most powerful.
That's not all this model has going for it. Superior handling and comfort, a sturdy chassis and high-performance Brembo dual-dish brakes are among its impressive list of features, in addition to the notable grip, handling, performance and durability of its Michelin Scorcher tyres.
These are just a handful of the bikes that'll be hitting showrooms in 2012. If you're planning on getting yourself a new ride, pick yourself up some new kit – such as clothing from Dainese UK – at the same time and enjoy a whole new riding experience.
