Peugeot's new 2008 compact crossover

Details for Peugeot’s new crossover 2008 are a little light at the moment, but the fact that it’s based on the all-new 208 supermini gives us a good idea of how big it will look and feel on the road and what engines and ‘refinement’ it will enjoy. I say refinement as the little 208 scores well on build quality, and a general modern and pleasingly styled look of things.
The 208 also gets a wide choice of the latest low CO2 engines. Indeed, this new 2008 will be small, light enough and, with the same engines as the 208, will offer 99g/km CO2 models for best taxation performance. Expect to see the firm’s e-HDi diesel range under the sculpted bonnet, as well as 3-cylinder, 1-litre petrol options. These low CO2 options are likely to be a strong selling point for frugal familes and company car users alike.
The new 2008 crossover will sit in the B segment of the market, competing with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Juke, the Vauxhall Mokka and the Ford B-Max. That’s some strong and established competition right there. At 4.16 metres long, the new 2008 will leave a supermini-size footprint, but with its raised driving position and taller roofline it will offer a better road-view and extra practicality for those with kids and stacks of stuff to haul on a daily basis.
The 2008’s front-end reflects much of the 208’s fresh style including the chrome ‘floating’ grille and attractively intricate headlights with LED daytime running lights inside. Wheels of at least 17-inches will be needed to fill those big wheel arches and the black bumpers and side sills are said to protect the 2008 from scratches and scrapes along with the stainless steel front and rear ‘bashplates’.
The new Peugeot 2008 crossover will make its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March, ahead of an on sale date in the UK around late summertime.
