A new line of Peugeot 107 and 207 hatches, with great fuel economy, the promise of peppy performance and Gallic good looks goes on sale this month with the UK release of the Sportium versions. These new models will replace the ENVY model range.

The 107 supermini Sportium is priced from £9,945 OTR with CO2 emissions of just 103g/km, combined fuel economy of 62.77mpg and a new white-detailed interior. Canny buyers can also get £1,050 worth of extra kit for £350.

Along with the white trim on the inside and on the wing mirror covers, the little extras that take it a cut above the basic 107 include a tinted rear window, 14-inch alloy wheels and air-conditioning.

It’s available as a three- or five-door model with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. Body colours for the Sportium are Laser Red, Citrus Yellow, Diamond White, Zircon Grey and Electra Blue.

The slightly bigger 207 Sportius, meanwhile, has a similarly funky range of colour names with Bianca White, Aluminium, Thorium Grey, Onyx Black, and the Sportium-exclusive shade of Oasis Blue.

Priced from £12,095 OTR, this three- or five-door hatchback comes with a choice of two petrol or two diesel engines, with the diesel engines having CO2 emissions of 110g/km. Combined fuel economy is around the 67.3mpg mark. All engines are Euro 5-compliant and there are six 1.4-litre variants and two 1.6-litre options.

The kit is pretty impressive for a reasonably priced hatch with the Sportius fitted with a Clarion multi-media unit with a 6.2-inch touchscreen, European sat nav and Bluetooth.

Other nice touches include 15-inch alloy wheels on all the 1.4-litre models and 16-inch alloys on the HDi 92 version. The Sportium interior pack for the 207 includes an alloy footrest, pedals and gear knob and dark tinted rear and side glass.

As a Sportium sweetener, Peugeot has chucked in £1,215 worth of extra specification for only £350 more. Both cars come with zero road fund licence costs.
