Ford is making a solid recovery from the 2009 global financial crisis with strong sales of the Fiesta; the Blue Oval’s top seller in the UK.
White van men everywhere also helped keep Ford in the black with the Ford Transit again reigning supreme as the best-selling commercial vehicle. In April, 3,875 Transits were sold, compared with 2,275 last April.
Total UK car sales were down in April, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders with 137,746 units sold, a 7.4% drop. Ford’s April sales were 18,411, down from 19,216 in April 2010 but Ford’s share of total car sales was up by 13.4%. In April, they nabbed 12.8% of market share, up from 10.5% last April.
As well as the evergreen appeal of the Fiesta, sales of the C-MAX, Kuga, S-MAX and Galaxy all reported an increase last month compared with April 2010.
Nigel Sharp, managing director of Ford of Britain describes the UK market as “intensely competitive” and puts the accountant-pleasing April figures down to the brand’s “outstanding vehicle range… proving its strong customer appeal.”

Test drive: Ford S-MAX 2-litre TDCi Titanium X Sport
The Transit van is again the top-selling commercial vehicle in the UK. A long-term sales success for Ford
The practical C-MAX also showed sales strength
Kuga is also on the up. We're test-driving one of these very soon
S-MAX proved popular with British punters thanks to interior space and quality, and car-like road manners
The Galaxy also sold well; part of what Ford believes is a range that offers the right depth of choice to consumers
