Cadillac CTS-V racer - mean as an overtired rattlesnake!

Cadillac CTS-V racer – mean as an overtired rattlesnake!

Let's blow away those Monday morning blues with something altogether spicier than your average.

In fact, I think we could be looking at vindaloo-strength here with Cadillac's supercharged 6.2-litre V8, CTS-V coupe racer.

Now the CTS-V is as rare as a pothole-free street on the UK's roads, but you can actually buy one here, so I guess that's a good enough excuse to have a quick fix of these latest images of the race car that's to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this week.

As a standard car, the CTS-V, in my opinion, looks mean, tough and modern, and I always thought it would make a handsome race car. And here's the photographic proof of that red-hot, 600bhp motorsport pudding.

The CTS-V racer will be competing in an America-only series – the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT races – but if you really want to see and hear it lap in anger you should find coverage somewhere out there on the internet or cable TV.

But, if you want to get more personal with the CTS-V coupe or saloon road car, the only UK dealer is a specialist called Bauer Millett, based in Manchester. I've driven the CTS-V saloon early last year and can certainly confirm that it deftly delivers on its promises of eye-widening performance, as alluded to by a supercharged, large-capacity V8 engine. It also delivers on grip and cornering prowess too thanks to its Nürburgring-honed chassis. And the noise? Just delicious!

Obviously any big V8 is going to like a drink and the CTS-V is no different. Drive the 556bhp powerplant hard and you'd better be lapping a petrol station. Apply the power more conservatively and you'll see combined economy of 18.4mpg and a CO2 figure of 365g/km, in return for a 0-62mph time of 4.4secs, a double-ton-nudging 191mph top speed and a just-shy-of £70k sticker price.
